As far as I know goldwave five is able to convert them without problems. Try a different format like ogg and see what happens, then you can convert the the ogg file to mp3.

Just a thought but, it is very hard to give advice on how you might do this without knowing what format these audible books are in to start with. Do you know? If you could tell us that we might be able to help.

all audible files are mp3.au files. when converting to ogg format, i just get a system acception error.

I use Switch to convert all my files. It's very easy to use and best of all, it's free! All you have to do is select the file and choose which format you want it to convert to. After you install it and open it up, hit the applications key and cycle through your choices. You can figure out what to do from there. The site for getting it is: www.nch.com.au/switch. Hope this helps!

sadly it was unable to open the AA file. have you actually used this with audio books from audible?

I'm sorry it didn't work. I'm actually not a member of audible.com. But good luck with your search on converting.

Just one thing that might be worth trying, it might sound a bit odd but, have you tried just changing the file extention at the end to .mp3? That's worth a go I'd have thought. You may be pleasantly surprised! lol.

Unfortunately I'm not a member of the site in question either so I can't actually get hold of one of the files to play around with. Sorry about that sir. Good luck in your quest though.

Audible's format is specifically designed to prevent unauthorized copying. That's how they get so many audio book provider sites to give them their content. There is some sort of licensing or encryption on the files obviously and I think it's Audible's own propriatery format.
This being said anything can be converted to anything else but I think no legal file convertion company can provide a way for converting copy protected file format like Audible's to mp3. I've never managed to do anything about it except just record the audible stream with a audio capture software and convert that to mp3, clumsy but you could probably make that work.
If you find a better solution I'd love to know about it.

Another option would be to burn your audible files to cd using Audible manager, then rip the cd's to mp3 files. It's clunky, but it will definitely work.

Once I used Cd ex to convert those books into mp3 format. It took a hella long time, but I didn't have to burn it to cd first. There's my two cents worth.
